 WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Teachers/Educators with their most dedicated high school Media Arts Students AND District/Building Arts Administrators.

WHEN:             Friday, March 27, 2009
SHOW SITE:    Five Towns College
TIME:               8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPATION:  
Send enclosed forms by March 12, 2009

REGISTRATION FORMS

$75 REGISTRATION FEE: per school, payable in advance or at show.  Make checks payable to Long Island Media Arts Show. Checks and Purchase Orders accepted.

NYS SUMMER SCHOOL OF THE MEDIA ARTS (NYSSSA): 
A four-week NYSED sponsored Media Arts summer program will be held at Oswego College. NYS Education Department evaluators attend our Media Arts Show and choose potential participants.  Interested students should bring in a completed NYSSSA application, available at the NYSSSA website: http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa/SMA/media.htm

VIDEO ENTRY LIMIT: Five 5-minute videos maximum per school
*Note:
Please have students enter productions w/ appropriate language and content and all original footage.

PHOTOGRAPHY/COMPUTER GRAPHICS VOLUNTARY LIMIT:
Teachers please select students who, because of their serious approach and talent, would most benefit from evaluator comment of their portfolios.  No specified limit of participating students, but we need to keep numbers manageable.  Students may attend show even if not presenting a portfolio.

 REGISTER and EVALUATE: 
Make plans to attend the show (see Registration form) with a group of your most interested students.  Please be the first “evaluator” by selecting among your most committed students and by encouraging the presentation of the best student
work.  To benefit from the day, all attending students should have an interest in the media arts.

SCHEDULE: Registration begins at 7:45a.m; 
Program is from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Please stay for the entire program for your students to present and view the works of other students.  Assist your students in planning their presentations and
encourage them to be good audiences when viewing.

David Cohen, Dean of Administration, is hosting the show at the excellent FIVE TOWNS COLLEGE facility.  

NO SMOKING PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON CAMPUS 

DIRECTIONS TO FIVE TOWNS COLLEGE:

LIE to Exit 50; Bagatelle Road
From West make LEFT; from East make RIGHT onto Bagatelle Road
Make a RIGHT onto Half Hollow Road
Proceed 2 blocks 
Make a RIGHT on Burrs Lane
College parking is on LEFT, half-way up Burrs Lane

 

 VIDEO: Students give a brief introduction to their work and answer questions from evaluators and audience as part of their presentation.
1.
       All entries must be in DVD, one production per   disk, finalized and ready to go. Confirm DVD compatibility by playing the disk on a standard DVD player before attending show.  If need VHS, contact Dan Brenner by March 12 at 631-286-6537. Each entry is limited to 5 minutes, excerpts OK.
2.
       Tapes must be all original material; no re-edits of broadcast footage or movies.
3.
       Teachers
must review tapes for appropriate language and content.  Tapes w/ inappropriate language/content will be removed from show.
4.
       LIMIT of 5 TAPES PER SCHOOL.

PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIOS: Two students share a 3’ x 6’ display panel that is provided.  Students discuss their work one-on-one w/ evaluators. Work must remain displayed until end of show.  Bring masking or Gaffer’s tape for mounting (limit 5-8 prints).

COMPUTER ARTS HARD COPY: Students discuss work one-on-one w/ evaluators.  Bring masking or Gaffer's tape for mounting (5-8 prints).

COMPUTER ANIMATION: includes computer animation, multimedia, web-page design, traditional animation.  Presentation options: DVD (checked for standard compatibility. See Video guidelines) or MAC G3 or G4 available on-site.  (limit:  5 minutes; works in progress accepted).

GROUP CRITIQUE: Comment on selected student photographs and computer graphics.

COMPETITION OR PRESENTATION: Earning admission to the Summer School of the Media Arts is selective.  However, the main objective for students not applying to the summer school is to present their work to an attentive audience and get feedback from evaluators and peers in a non-competitive environment.

LUNCH: Sandwiches/beverages are available at reasonable cost in college cafeteria.

PRE-REGISTER BY MARCH 12, 2009: 
Use enclosed registration forms; make additional copies as needed.
 
Only work that is pre-registered can be scheduled.

SUMMER PROGRAM:  
Students with a serious interest in attending the NYS Summer School of the Media Arts at Ithaca College should FILL OUT SUMMER SCHOOL APPLICATION IN ADVANCE and make sure their work is evaluated by NYS Education evaluators attending the show.  Please contact Summer School Office at 518-474-8773or check website: http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa/SMA/media.htm
